About
My Story
Growing in Cuba and after living in several countries, I found myself with a mix of Latin and Caribbean rhythms. The root of my creative process is attached to folk and traditional expressions with a twist to contemporary and avant-garde textures and forms.
As a guitarist, composer and producer, I have been collaborated with stars of the Cuban music like: Mayito Rivera (Grammy & Latin Grammy Award Winner/Van Van Orchestra), Rodolfo Peruchin Justiz (Legendary Cuban pianist), Robertico Garcia (Latin Grammy Nominee), Reinier Mendoza (Grammy Nominee), Liban K'weyro (Latin Grammy Nominee), Heikel Fabian Trimino (Grammy Nominee), among many others.

Rey Escobar's original music for the highly-acclaimed Cuban documentary film Alumbrones. Directed by Bruce Donelly, looks at the work and lives of twelve contemporary Cuban artists, living in Havana today. Through in-depth interviews, the film covers a diverse range of subjects and issues, from supply shortages to family life, love, sex and music. Visiting each person in their home and studio, the film explores the philosophies and ideas present in their work as well as the many obstacles and difficulties that are faced on a daily basis and the feelings each person has towards the place they call home.
